Endometriosis is the presence or the overgrowth of the eudiometrical tissue (normally found only on the inside of the uterus) in locations outside the uterus. The usual location is in the pelvis, ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, or bladder, omentum, small intestine, appendix, anterior abdominal wall, surgical scars, diaphragm, lung, urinary tract, and musculoskeletal and neural systems.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) about 4.5 million couples experience infertility every year. Infertility is a common health problem in men and women. It is a very private and personal problem, which at times leads to embarrassment.

There still lies a debate if laparoscopic surgery is effective in increasing the potential of pregnancy. After many medical tests being conducted it is found that the fertility rate does go up after laparoscopic surgery. A laparoscopy surgery is an operation that allows a doctor to see the inside of the pelvic cavity and observe the growth of the endometrial.

The procedure involves making a small cut in the abdominal area or another incision at the lower abdominal too inserting a laparascope (long, thin, lighted instrument). This would help to see the endometrial implants easily. After the operation the patients can resume back to their daily chores in a day's time. The surgery is done to minimize the severe ness of the problem. A laparoscopy operation is the only option that guarantees fertility for women. In some cases where women do not want to preserve their fertility can go in for a laparotomy.

Surgeries: A laparoscope's can freeze the implants or burn with laser or even get them removed surgically. This depends on the type of endometriosis.

A laparatomy is a much major surgery that involves a large incision in the abdomen this procedure relieves the endometriosis-related pain, but it may cause other severe pain, irritation, inflation and discomfort. It has a lot of risk associated with it and the recovery time is not immediate bet takes about 4 to 6 weeks. This laparotomy is the best option for those people who have immense pain and are suffering from it for a along time. May be the best option for patients who are suffering debilitating pain.
