Endometriosis is the common gynecological disorder that the gynecologist has to deal with quite often. Endometriosis is affecting 89 million women all over the world. Endometriosis affects only women of the reproductive age and the percentage in women who have severe menstrual cramps is about twenty five to thirty five percent. Women fall victims to this debilitating disorder after their menstrual cycle till their menopause period.

The menstrual cycle in women is necessary for conceiving, but the irregularity in the cycle results in different disorders. Such organs of the woman like the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries are affected by endometriosis it certainly affects the patient's capacity to conceive. Endometriosis is that condition in which the tissues that line the inside of the uterus start growing on other places, the endometrium that grows in a misplaced part, usually the endometrium is thrown out of the body by the menstrual cycle but the endometrium doesn't get thrown out of the body with menstrual discharge every month.

The non discharge of the endometrium tissues start affecting the body by scarring or adhesions. The endometriosis generates such effects like degenerated blood, pain in the surrounding area of the body and thus leads to infertility for the patient.

Endometriosis and infertility

Infertility and endometriosis are interrelated; indeed in many cases endometriosis is the prime cause of infertility. It is only by default that patients come to know that they have endometriosis, when they go for treating infertility during the laparoscopic examination endometriosis is found. Endometriosis affects twenty three to forty percent of infertile women. Some of the primary symptoms for endometriosis include sever pain in the lower abdomen, pain during sexual intercourse, the feeling of extreme pain during urination, these are all the symptoms for endometriosis which need to be given immediate attention.

There exists a lot of difference of opinion in the fact about endometriosis affecting pregnancy. It has been satisfactorily proved that the chances of getting pregnant for a patient with endometriosis are less than one who does not have endometriosis. The statistics in this respect suggests that twenty percent woman who are patients of endometriosis and want to be pregnant will not be able to have any child. But it is fortunate that eighty women out of one hundred will have no problem in getting pregnant.
