Endometriosis is a disorder of the women's uterus. This disease of the uterus is a common complaint of women to their gynecologist. Endometriosis is the growth of tissues outside the uterus of the body and it resembles the same inner lining of the tissues in the uterus cavity of the body. The endometrial cell growth is simply misplaced growth.
 

Generally endometriosis is present only in the pelvic cavity but at times it has been found in other part of the body. This abnormality has been termed as rather complex and is very poorly understood by the patient. The actual cause of endometriosis may be different like it may be the result of infertility.

The disease of endometriosis is found in five percent of the women who are of the reproductive age. But it has been seen that women who have menstrual abnormalities the percentage of endometriosis is between twenty five to thirty percent.

The age factor in the occurrence of endometriosis is very important because the disorder is mainly related to the women's menstrual cycle. So this disease can affect the women who are between their menstrual cycle to their menopause or even post menopause. This condition is generally not found in women below the age of fifteen.

The general causes of endometriosis

There are not many clear reasons for the occurrence of endometriosis, which are known there are mainly theories as to why this condition occurs. According to one theory it is suggested that the endometrial tissue is thrown in many different places of the body because of the retrograde menstruation that is the backing up of the menstrual flow.

But it has been very unclear as to why the retrograde menstruation happens. It is also worth noting that many women have been found with the retrograde menstruation but without endometriosis. It is also suggested that during surgery the direct transfer of the endometrial tissue may result in the endometriosis implant. Women who have endometriosis have altered immune response which cannot control and destroy the abnormal growth of the endometrial tissue.

Some women believe that if they do intercourse during the menstrual cycle it may become the cause of endometriosis, this doubt is not really valid because researchers haven't found any such statistics that can prove this to be true so this a myth about endometriosis.
