Endometriosis is a condition where tissues, which are present at the lining of the uterus, are also found in other parts of the body. This can be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes and the pelvic sidewall, the bladder, bowel, intestines, colon, appendix and rectum. The main sign of this problem is that it causes severe pelvic pain. This is found only in women. There is no cause of endometriosis; hence there is no 100% cure for this condition. There is yet a treatment to be found for the cure of endometriosis.
The choice of treatment would vary for women to women. The doctor would diagnose the condition and then suggest a treatment depending on her age, her problems and her fertility issues. Together they would decide what should be the treatment, the duration of the treatment. The plan would be designed to suit her preferences and need. Drugs used:
This condition causes immense pain to the patient hence a lot of painkillers are required. These pain killers or drugs can be: analgesics (which are a combination of either aspirin or paracetamol and a mild narcotic such as codeine) and narcotic analgesics (similar to morphine), through to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as nurofen, ponstan, voltaren, etc). There can be hormonal therapy where the oestrogen is bought under control or hormonal treatment can also be through the use of birth control pills, which reduce the growth and build up of natural hormones. These pills reduce the menstrual pain and reduce the flow of periods. The women can stop taking these pills when she wants to get pregnant. Progestins pills are similar to birth control pills but the only difference is that they don't contain estrogen, and when the women want to conceive they can stop taking the pills. Mirena, aromatase inhibitors, GnRH-agonists, and danazol, but these are rarely used nowadays. Hormonal therapies may cause many side effects and the pain relief that they give to many women and girls is temporary. Surgery:
To deal with the side effects caused by these drugs can treat by surgery. Many physicians agree that laparoscopic surgery is the only assured way to diagnose endometriosis. In many cases the signs can be found out and treated too. To make the surgery a success it 's all in the hands of the doctor. Today mostly all the surgeries are a success. Most women are assured that hysterectomy is a cent percent solution for the disease but this is not true as there is chances for the disease to re occur. Another way of treatment is hormone treatment. Doctors recommend this to women who do not wish to get pregnant. This treatment includes pills, injections and nasal sprays. |
